Furter 17 research projects with a total volume of 110.9 MM € will be supported bei the EU initiative Shift2Rail with 60.8 MM € in the next two years. The aim of the funding program is to ensure the competitiveness of the European rail industry by market-orientated research according to the EU transport needs.
One of the selected proposals is the ERCI supported project ‘OptiYard’ aiming at optimising the real-time yard and network management. Since the rail is becoming more and more important for the European freight transport, the increasing number of train movements and shunting operations through freight marshalling yards at strategic locations has to be managed. The 13-headed OptiYard-consortium, conducted by UIC, will provide tools to ease coordination decisions and contribute directly to an increase of the capacity and efficiency of the yards.
