The European association of railway industry clusters ERCI awarded the trophies for its annual Innovation Competition at InnoTrans 2016 in Berlin on the evening of September 21 2016.
The event was hosted by ERCI member BTS Rail Saxony, one out of 11 European railway cluster that represent the interests of more than 1,000 European railway companies, mostly SME’s.
Dr. Ruediger Grube, CEO of Deutsche Bahn AG, was very pleased to receive the ERCI innovation award in the „large enterprise“ category from Keir Fitch, in charge of transport R&D programs at the DG MOVE at the EU commission. Deutsche Bahn received the award for the achievements of the the project “Eco DeMe Train”, the development of a dual-mode locomotive. The locomotive is a diesel-electric locomotive that was modified such, that it can use electrical energy from catenary as well on partially electrified lines.
The „best SME“ award went to Belgian company ubidata, that has combined a telematics hardware device with a big-data layer, providing a fleet management solution for freight wagon owners and managers.
The “Coup de Coeur” was awarded to the Natural Security Alliance association from France for the development of a ticketing app, which provides through the use of biometrical information both, an easy-to-use and safe way to identify passengers on trains.
