At Railgrup’s proposal, ERCI has promoted a working group to encourage a multimodal logistics strategy that takes more account of the railway sector. This task force will debut with a debate at the highest level in which the Executive Director of Shift2Rail will participate.
ERCI Task Force on Multimodal Logistics is a working group in which both MAFEX Asociación Ferroviaria Española and Railgrup participate on behalf of Spain. It aims to influence the promotion and design of multimodal logistics chains. This is a key element in the sustainable supply of goods and does not, at present, give actors in the railway sector the role they deserve. In fact, rail freight transport consumes six times less energy and operational costs than road transport, but surprisingly, the same goods are moved by train today as they were 15 years ago.
On June 10th, we discussed the main circumstances and situation of the sector in Europe. Carlo Borghini, Executive Director of Shift2Rail Joint Undertaking, the most important organization in terms of research and technological innovation in the railway sector, participated in the event. Borghini’s exhibition was entitled: “Freight Transport in Europe: Boosting a modal shift to rail”.
The event also featured Armando Carrillo, Secretary General of the European Rail Research Network of Excellence (EURNEX) and the presentation of the results of a study comparing the aeronautical and railway sectors by Jonas Vuitton, Researcher at the Technische Universität Berlin (TU Berlin).
Finally, there was a question and answer session with the attendees who actively participated, thus showing the interest on the subject at a European level.
The Webinar brought together over 90 attendees from 15 European countries.
The ERCI Task Force on Multimodal Logistics looks forward to achieving clear objectives at a crucial time in multimodal logistics decision-making. These strategies will affect the economic development of the territories and the impact on the environment.
Due to the high demand for the recording and shown presentations ERCI partner cluster railgrup has now published all presentations of the Webinar on Freight and Logistics. If you are interested in the recording kindly send an email to info@railgrup.net.
